Frequently Asked Questions
Please get in touch if you have a question that isn't answered here.
Our guests take the helm-
Do I need to have any previous sailing experience?
Absolutely not! We can manage Seraph with no problems between the two of us. However, if you would like to get involved with the basics of yacht management -- trimming sails, helming, and so on, then we are more than happy to show you the ropes.
-
How many people can you take?
We've found that six guests (plus the two of us) is an optimum number. Any more and things start to feel too crowded to be comfortable.
-
Can we swim/dive from Seraph?
You're welcome to swim from Seraph when we are at anchor just off one of the bays. However, we are not a "dive boat", and carry no scuba gear. You are welcome to bring your own flippers, snorkel, etc.
-
What happens if someone feels sea-sick?
Feeling sea-sick is no fun, and for some people the symptoms can take a while to manifest. If you know you are a sufferer then appropriate travel sickness remedies are available from local chemists and should be taken at the appropriate time before we sail. We do carry "aqua bands"; these are elastic wrist bands which impart pressure on key points on your wrist and have found these to be quite successful.
-
What happens if the weather turns against us?
We will have already taken the local weather forecast off the internet or from the marina office in the morning. If the weather is forecast to be inclement on the day we may cancel or agree to reschedule your booking.
Should the weather be changeable, we will take a view prior to setting sail. (If we do get a shower/downpour then we have suitable wet weather clothing for those aboard).
-
What should I wear?
The weather can be changeable, and it is important that you dress appropriately. Also, once the wind picks up it can make an appreciable difference to the apparent temperature and the amount of sun exposure you are feeling.
Our advice is layers of clothing that you can add or remove as necessary. For most of the summer months then shorts, t-shirt or other lightweight top and a sweater is a good start. Bring spare clothes as you think necessary.
Don't forget the swimming costume, towel, and sun-screen. We would also recommend that you bring a hat to help keep the sun off.
A word about shoes -- no black soled shoes please as they mark the decking. Soft soled trainers with a good grip are fine, and deck shoes are even better.
-
Are children allowed?
Children are welcome on board, and here we see Ellie take a turn at the helmIn our experience this is not a day for young children and so reluctantly we are unable to include childeren under 10 in the group.
We have found that older children are only too happy to take a turn at steering, or winding a winch (all with appropriate supervision, of course).
If you are worried about (children) falling overboard then the life jackets can be clipped via leadlines to securely fixed D-rings to ensure you stay onboard.
-
What other costs might be incurred?
Other costs over and above those shown under Booking are only incurred should we visit or overnight in another marina (ie NOT Marina de Denia). The cost of berthing, water, and electricity will be shared between the guests onboard.

Why "Seraph"?
"Seraph" means "winged angel". It seemed an appropriate name for our white craft, speeding across the waves with the sails billowing like wings...
